Description

A light and flavorful dish featuring tender white fish fillets cooked in a tangy lemon butter sauce. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 white fish fillets (such as tilapia, cod, or halibut)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (optional, for light coating)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (about 1 lemon)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • Lemon slices, for garnish

Instructions

  • Prepare the Fish:

    • Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt and pepper.
    • If desired, lightly coat the fillets in flour, shaking off the excess.
  • Cook the Fish:

    • In a large skillet, heat olive oil and 1 tablespoon butter over medium-high heat.
    • Add the fish fillets and cook for 3-4 minutes per side until golden and cooked through.
    • Remove the fish from the skillet and set aside.
  • Make the Sauce:

    • In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium and add the remaining 1 tablespoon butter.
    • Sauté the minced garlic for about 1 minute until fragrant.
    • Pour in the broth and lemon juice, stirring to combine.
    • Simmer the sauce for 2-3 minutes to let it slightly reduce.
    • Stir in the lemon zest and chopped parsley, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Finish the Dish:

    • Return the fish fillets to the skillet, spooning the sauce over them.
    • Warm through for 1-2 minutes.
  • Serve:

    • Serve immediately with steamed vegetables, rice, or a fresh salad, garnished with lemon slices.

Notes

  • Fish Options: This recipe works well with any firm white fish fillets, such as tilapia, cod, or halibut.
  • Gluten-Free Option: To make this dish gluten-free, omit the flour or use a gluten-free alternative for coating.
  • Dairy-Free Option: Substitute butter with olive oil or a dairy-free butter alternative.
  • Spicy Twist: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce for a slight kick.
  • Creamy Sauce: For a richer sauce, stir in a splash of heavy cream or coconut milk.
