Description

Crispy, bite-sized wonton appetizers filled with a savory blend of seasoned ground pork, aromatic vegetables, and spices. Perfect for parties or as a delightful starter, these wonton bites are best enjoyed with your favorite dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 20 wonton wrappers
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
  • 2 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten (for sealing)
  • Cooking oil (for frying)

Optional Dipping Sauce:

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp chili oil
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1/2 tsp sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Prepare the Filling:

    • In a medium bowl, combine ground pork, green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Mix well until evenly incorporated.
  • Assemble the Wontons:

    • Place about 1 teaspoon of the filling in the center of each wonton wrapper.
    • Brush the edges with a little beaten egg, fold over into a triangle, and press firmly to seal. Alternatively, create a traditional wonton shape by bringing all corners together.
  • Fry the Wonton Bites:

    • Heat oil in a deep skillet or fryer over medium-high heat.
    • Fry the wonton bites in batches for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until they turn golden and crispy.
    • Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  • Prepare the Dipping Sauce (Optional):

    • In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, chili oil, honey, and sesame seeds until well combined.

  • Serve:

    • Arrange the crispy wonton bites on a serving platter and serve warm with the dipping sauce on the side.

Notes

  • For a seafood twist, substitute ground pork with finely chopped shrimp or a mix of both.
  • Ensure the oil is hot enough (around 350°F/175°C) to achieve a crispy exterior without absorbing too much oil.
  • Experiment with different dipping sauces such as sweet chili or garlic soy for extra flavor.
