Ingredients
For the Scones:
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tbsp matcha powder
1/3 cup granulated sugar
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cubed
1/2 cup heavy cream (plus extra for brushing)
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
3/4 cup white chocolate chips
For the Glaze (Optional):
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tbsp milk
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat & Prep
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Step 2: Make the Dough
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, matcha powder, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the cold cubed butter and cut it into the dry ingredients using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, egg, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the flour mixture and gently mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Fold in the white chocolate chips.
- Step 3: Shape the Scones
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and shape it into a 1-inch thick disc.
- Cut into 8 wedges or use a round cutter for a more traditional scone shape.
- Place scones on the prepared baking sheet and brush the tops with extra heavy cream.
- Step 4: Bake
- Bake for 15–18 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Let them cool on a wire rack.
- Step 5: Prepare the Glaze (Optional)
- In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Drizzle over the cooled scones.
Notes
For a stronger matcha flavor, add an extra 1–2 teaspoons of matcha powder.
Store scones in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for longer storage.
If you don’t have white chocolate chips, substitute with dark chocolate chips or skip them entirely.
