Description
This soft homemade bread dough recipe is perfect for beginners and yields a fluffy, tender loaf that’s ideal for sandwiches, toast, or enjoying on its own. Made with simple ingredients, this dough is versatile and can be used for dinner rolls, pizza crust, or cinnamon rolls.
Ingredients
4 cups (500g) all-purpose flour
1 1/4 cups (300ml) warm water (110°F/45°C)
2 1/4 teaspoons (7g) active dry yeast
1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
1/4 cup (60ml) milk, warmed
1/4 cup (60g) unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon (6g) salt
Instructions
- Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Mix the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, warm milk, and melted butter. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Dough: Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf or divide it into smaller portions for rolls.
- Second Rise: Place the shaped dough in a greased loaf pan or on a baking sheet. Cover and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Cool: Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
For a richer flavor, replace water with milk.
Store bread in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour while kneading.
