Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3/4 cup buttermilk (cold)
- 2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
- Cut in butter: Use a pastry cutter or your hands to mix in the cold butter until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
- Add buttermilk: Gradually pour in buttermilk, stirring gently until the dough comes together. Do not overmix.
- Roll out dough: Lightly flour a surface and roll the dough to about ½-inch thickness. Fold the dough over itself a few times to create layers.
- Cut biscuits: Use a round cutter (or a glass) to cut out biscuits and place them on the baking sheet.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown on top.
- Brush with melted butter immediately after baking for extra flavor.
Notes
- For extra flakiness, chill the dough for 15 minutes before rolling.
- If you don’t have buttermilk, use ¾ cup milk + 1 tbsp vinegar or lemon juice (let it sit for 5 minutes).
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for later.
