Description

These KFC-style biscuits are flaky, buttery, and soft on the inside with a golden, slightly crisp exterior. They pair perfectly with fried chicken, gravy, or even just a drizzle of honey or butter!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk (cold)
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  • Cut in butter: Use a pastry cutter or your hands to mix in the cold butter until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
  • Add buttermilk: Gradually pour in buttermilk, stirring gently until the dough comes together. Do not overmix.
  • Roll out dough: Lightly flour a surface and roll the dough to about ½-inch thickness. Fold the dough over itself a few times to create layers.
  • Cut biscuits: Use a round cutter (or a glass) to cut out biscuits and place them on the baking sheet.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  • Brush with melted butter immediately after baking for extra flavor.

Notes

  • For extra flakiness, chill the dough for 15 minutes before rolling.
  • If you don’t have buttermilk, use ¾ cup milk + 1 tbsp vinegar or lemon juice (let it sit for 5 minutes).
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for later.
