Instructions
- Preheat the waffle iron and grease it lightly.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, vanilla extract, red food coloring, and vinegar.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Pour batter into the preheated waffle iron and cook according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Remove waffles when crispy and cooked through.
- Serve warm with cream cheese glaze, syrup, or fresh berries.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, let the waffles cool on a wire rack instead of stacking them.
- Substitute buttermilk with 1¾ cups of milk + 1 tbsp lemon juice if needed.
- Adjust food coloring based on desired red intensity.
