Instructions
-
Make the Hamburger Steaks:
- In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and paprika.
- Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties for about 4 minutes per side, until browned. Remove and set aside.
-
Make the Onion Gravy:
- In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté the onions until soft and caramelized (about 10 minutes).
- Sprinkle flour over the onions, stirring constantly for 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes until thickened.
-
Combine and Serve:
- Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, spoon the onion gravy over them, and let simmer for another 5 minutes.
- Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or vegetables.
Notes
- For extra flavor, use a mix of ground beef and pork.
- If the gravy is too thick, add more beef broth to reach the desired consistency.
- Add mushrooms for a richer taste.
