Description

A rich, savory side dish where tender cabbage is sautéed with garlic and finished with a creamy Parmesan sauce. This comforting dish transforms simple cabbage into a decadent, melting treat—perfect alongside your favorite mains.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 medium head cabbage, shredded
  • 3 tbsp olive oil (or butter)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream (or half-and-half for a lighter version)
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for a spicy kick)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, warm the olive oil (or butter).
  • Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  • Stir in the shredded cabbage. Toss to coat evenly and cook for 8–10 minutes until the cabbage softens and begins to brown slightly.
  • Pour in the heavy cream and add the red pepper flakes (if using). Let the mixture simmer for 2–3 minutes until the cream slightly thickens.
  • Reduce heat to low and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese. Continue stirring until the cheese melts into the sauce, coating the cabbage well.
  • Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  • Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For added brightness, finish with a squeeze of lemon juice.
  • Serve this dish as a hearty side with grilled meats or as a comforting vegetarian main alongside crusty bread.
  • Adjust the consistency by adding a splash of milk if the sauce becomes too thick.
