Scale
- 8 slices of thick bread (Texas toast works great)
- 1 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, diced
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp cinnamon (optional)
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and creamy.
- Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over 4 slices of bread.
- In a separate bowl, mix the diced strawberries with granulated sugar and lemon juice. Let sit for 5 minutes to macerate.
- Spoon the macerated strawberries onto the cream cheese-covered bread slices. Top with the remaining 4 slices of bread to form sandwiches.
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. In another shallow bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and cinnamon.
- Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, then coat with the flour mixture, ensuring it’s fully covered.
- Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the sandwiches for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the skillet and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Dust with powdered sugar and serve immediately while warm.
Notes
- For a healthier version, you can use whole wheat bread or a lighter cream cheese option.
- Try adding other fruits like blueberries or raspberries for variation.
- Serve with whipped cream or a drizzle of chocolate sauce for extra indulgence.
- If you prefer a less sweet filling, reduce the powdered sugar in the cream cheese mixture.
