For the Streusel Topping:

  • 1 cup (180 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (200 g) packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup (113 g) unsalted butter, softened

For the Cake Batter:

  • 3 cups (375 g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 cups (450 g) granulated sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (230 g) sour cream
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) whole milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Prepare the Streusel Topping:

    • In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
    • Cut in the softened butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
    • Set aside.
  • Prepare the Cake Batter:

    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
    • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
    • Add the softened butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the sour cream, milk, eggs, and vanilla extract.
    • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • Assemble the Cake:

    • Spread half of the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
    • Sprinkle half of the streusel topping over the batter.
    • Spread the remaining batter over the streusel layer.
    • Sprinkle the remaining streusel topping evenly over the top.
  • Bake:

    • Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Serve:

    • Allow the cake to cool in the pan on a wire rack for about 15 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For added flavor, you can mix in 1/2 cup of chopped nuts, such as walnuts or pecans, into the streusel topping.
  • This cake can be made a day in advance and stored at room temperature, covered tightly.
