Description

A decadent dessert featuring a rich chocolate base topped with a creamy, gooey filling, resulting in a cake that’s both fudgy and moist. Perfect for chocolate lovers seeking a simple yet indulgent treat.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 4 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:

    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan with non-stick spray or butter.
  • Prepare the Cake Layer:

    • In a large bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, melted butter, and 1 egg. Mix until well combined.
    • Press this mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan to form the cake layer.
  • Prepare the Filling:

    • In the same bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth.
    • Add the remaining 2 eggs, vanilla extract, and cocoa powder. Mix until fully incorporated.
    • Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until the filling is smooth and creamy.
  • Assemble the Cake:

    • Pour the cream cheese filling over the cake layer in the pan, spreading it evenly.
  • Bake:

    • Bake in the preheated oven for 40-50 minutes, or until the center is set but still slightly jiggly. The top should be lightly browned.
  • Cool and Serve:

    • Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
    • Once cooled, cut into squares and serve.

Notes

  • Storage: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Allow to come to room temperature before serving for the best texture.
  • Variations:
    • Add-ins: Fold in 1/2 cup of chocolate chips or chopped nuts into the filling for added texture.
    • Flavor Twist: Substitute the vanilla extract with almond extract for a different flavor profile.
