- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, cocoa powder, and salt.
- Add the eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
- Gradually add the boiling water, stirring gently. The batter will be thin.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting and enjoy!
Notes
- You can substitute whole milk for the buttermilk if needed, but the texture may be slightly different.
- Add chocolate chips to the batter for extra chocolatey goodness
