Description

A moist and decadent chocolate buttermilk cake that’s perfect for any occasion! This cake is rich, flavorful, and so easy to make.


Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, cocoa powder, and salt.
  • Add the eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
  • Gradually add the boiling water, stirring gently. The batter will be thin.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can substitute whole milk for the buttermilk if needed, but the texture may be slightly different.
  • Add chocolate chips to the batter for extra chocolatey goodness
