Ingredients
For the Brownies:
2 eggs
3 bananas, mashed
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped (optional)
For the Frosting:
1/2 cup butter
3 cups powdered sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat the Oven
- Set your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Grease a 13 x 9-inch baking pan thoroughly to ensure the brownies don’t stick.
- Step 2: Mix the Wet Ingredients
- In a large bowl, beat together the sugar, sour cream, softened butter, and eggs until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Step 3: Add the Bananas and Vanilla
- Fold in the mashed bananas and vanilla extract.
- Step 4: Incorporate the Dry Ingredients
- Gradually mix in the flour, baking soda, and salt. Blend for about a minute to ensure all the ingredients are evenly combined.
- Step 5: Add the Walnuts
- Stir in the chopped walnuts (if using).
- Step 6: Bake
- Spread the batter evenly in your prepared pan.
- Bake for approximately 25 minutes or until the top turns golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Step 7: Prepare the Frosting
- While the brownies are cooling, heat the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat until it reaches a medium brown color. Watch carefully to avoid burning.
- Step 8: Finish the Frosting
- Remove from heat and gradually whisk in the powdered sugar, adding the milk little by little until the frosting reaches a smooth, spreadable consistency.
- Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Step 9: Frost and Cool
- Pour the frosting over the warm (but not hot) brownies and spread evenly.
- Allow the banana bread brownies to cool completely before cutting into squares.
Notes
For a nut-free version, omit the walnuts or replace them with chocolate chips.
Store the brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
The frosting can be adjusted to your preferred sweetness by adding more or less powdered sugar.
