Description

These Banana Bread Brownies are the ultimate dessert mashup!  Moist, banana-packed brownies topped with a rich, buttery frosting perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth. A must-try for banana bread and brownie lovers alike!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Brownies:

2 eggs

3 bananas, mashed

1 1/2 cups sugar

1 cup sour cream

1/2 cup butter, softened

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

3/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup walnuts, chopped (optional)

For the Frosting:

1/2 cup butter

3 cups powdered sugar

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

3 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  • Step 1: Preheat the Oven
  • Set your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Grease a 13 x 9-inch baking pan thoroughly to ensure the brownies don’t stick.
  • Step 2: Mix the Wet Ingredients
  • In a large bowl, beat together the sugar, sour cream, softened butter, and eggs until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  • Step 3: Add the Bananas and Vanilla
  • Fold in the mashed bananas and vanilla extract.
  • Step 4: Incorporate the Dry Ingredients
  • Gradually mix in the flour, baking soda, and salt. Blend for about a minute to ensure all the ingredients are evenly combined.
  • Step 5: Add the Walnuts
  • Stir in the chopped walnuts (if using).
  • Step 6: Bake
  • Spread the batter evenly in your prepared pan.
  • Bake for approximately 25 minutes or until the top turns golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Step 7: Prepare the Frosting
  • While the brownies are cooling, heat the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat until it reaches a medium brown color. Watch carefully to avoid burning.
  • Step 8: Finish the Frosting
  • Remove from heat and gradually whisk in the powdered sugar, adding the milk little by little until the frosting reaches a smooth, spreadable consistency.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Step 9: Frost and Cool
  • Pour the frosting over the warm (but not hot) brownies and spread evenly.
  • Allow the banana bread brownies to cool completely before cutting into squares.

Notes

For a nut-free version, omit the walnuts or replace them with chocolate chips.

Store the brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

The frosting can be adjusted to your preferred sweetness by adding more or less powdered sugar.
