Description
This gourmet grilled cheese sandwich is a flavor explosion! Creamy avocado, juicy tomatoes, and fresh mozzarella come together between crispy, buttery sourdough bread. Perfect for a quick lunch or a cozy dinner.
Ingredients
4 slices sourdough bread
1 ripe avocado, sliced
1 large tomato, sliced
8 oz fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
2 tbsp butter, softened
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh basil leaves (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Skillet:
- Heat a skillet over medium heat.
- Butter the Bread:
- Butter one side of each slice of sourdough bread.
- Assemble the Sandwich:
- Place two slices of bread, butter side down, in the skillet.
- Layer mozzarella cheese, avocado slices, and tomato slices on top.
- Season with salt and pepper. Add fresh basil leaves if using.
- Cook:
- Place the remaining slices of bread on top, butter side up.
- Cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Press down gently with a spatula to help the cheese melt and the sandwich stick together.
- Serve:
- Remove from the skillet, let cool for a minute, then slice and serve.
Notes
For extra flavor, add a drizzle of balsamic glaze or a sprinkle of red pepper flakes.
Use ciabatta or whole-grain bread as an alternative to sourdough.
If you don’t have fresh mozzarella, shredded mozzarella works too, but fresh is recommended for the best texture.
