Ingredients
– 2 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
– 1/2 tsp baking soda
– 1/2 tsp salt
– 1 tsp cinnamon
– 1/2 tsp nutmeg
– 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
– 1 cup granulated sugar
– 1/2 cup brown sugar
– 2 eggs
– 1 tsp vanilla extract
– 1/2 cup milk
– 2 cups apples, peeled and diced
– 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
– Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round or square baking pan.
2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
3. In a large bowl, mix melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well combined.
4. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with milk, and mix until smooth.
6. Fold in the diced apples and chopped nuts if using.
7. Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
8. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
9. Allow the cake to cool before dusting with powdered sugar if desired.
